HMC Architects Making Face Shields Amid Coronavirus Pandemic
HMC Architects (Los Angeles) is manufacturing face shields for healthcare workers in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, estimating up to 35 face shields per day.
Designers on staff are using 3-D models provided by the Columbia University Library Studios website and applying its fabrication capabilities and 3-D printers to manufacture the personal protective equipment (PPE) from remote (work from home) locations in Los Angeles; San Diego; San Jose, Calif.; Sacramento, Calif., and Ontario, Calif. The face shields are going to hospitals and clinics in nearby communities.
The firm says it plans to continue to manufacture the PPE as long as it can source materials.
