2018 Design Showcase Honorable Mention: Campus Upgrade

MidMichigan Medical Center’s plans for a new cardiovascular center and updated ambulatory services get high marks from this year’s jurors.
Published: August 27, 2018

MidMichigan Medical Center’s Midland campus is being revived with a three-story, 170,000-square-foot infill renovation aimed at improving operations by integrating service lines and supporting a holistic approach to patient care.

The project, which is expected to open in 2020, will include a new Cardiovascular Center of Excellence. Ambulatory services are also being redeveloped by consolidating clinical departments and providing future space for expanding the emergency department, pathology laboratory, and medical offices.

Submitted by Hord Coplan Macht, the project features a modern design with soaring roofs, a three-story glass atrium, and multiple levels of garden spaces both inside and outside, providing places of respite and access to nature throughout the facility. Natural materials, such as brick and stone, in a contemporary color palette were chosen to contrast with the campus’ existing red brick construction, further making a statement on campus.
