Inspiration for the design of Taikang Nanjing International Medical Center in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China, expected to be completed in October 2022, draws from the site and the natural elements that exist together there. Specifically, the visual images, natural sounds, and feel of the mountains, wind, and water provided a “Healing Wave” concept that harnesses nature’s healing power and positive energy.

Design of the 1.8 million-square-foot medical center, by HDR, creates a strong connection with the existing hospital and future building sites, including a senior housing and senior care center. Energy savings and sustainability are important elements of the design, further supporting the connection to nature.
