Zhejiang Cancer Hospital Shaoxing Campus: The design of the new Zhejiang Cancer Hospital Shaoxing Campus of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences is inspired by the natural and cultural attributes of the city.

Zhejiang Cancer Hospital Shaoxing Campus: Drawing context from the elegant curve of flowing water and nature’s healing power, the center will have green roofs, balcony gardens, and windows that face green areas to complete the “healing harbor” concept.

Zhejiang Cancer Hospital Shaoxing Campus: The outpatient department implements a modular design, with outpatient units arranged along the perimeter with the lobby at the center. Patients will enter exam rooms through a sub-waiting area to effectively resolve congestion, while staff enter the clinic from a back corridor.

Zhejiang Cancer Hospital Shaoxing Campus: Outdoor garden spaces will be set up at the end of each patient unit to provide lounge space for family members and create an activity venue for patients.

The new Zhejiang Cancer Hospital Shaoxing Campus of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Shaoxing, Zhejiang, China) is expected to be completed in 2025.
The 5 million-square-foot, 2,500-bed cancer hospital will house multiple disciplines, as well as clinical care, research, and trials, and integrate a large-scale medical technology platform, surgery center platform, medical transformation platform, and a visitor center platform.
Each specialty will have a simulation training classroom near its clinic to foster real-time training on tumor treatment, medical skills, physiotherapy, and other methods.
Delivering comfort to cancer patients
The design of the cancer center, delivered by HDR (San Francisco and Shanghai), will focus on delivering privacy, comfort, warmth, and hope for cancer patients. Because the hospital can be a “second home” for patients who are enduring long and exhausting treatments, sub-waiting spaces for admission, discharge, examination, and treatment areas are designed to be comfortable and warm.
In the infusion areas, the design will incorporate natural lighting, while offering privacy and comfort to patients.
The exterior design will feature a combination of warm colors and materials, including wood-looking aluminum plate and glass, to tie in with the region while creating a welcoming environment.
