Penn Medicine in Philadelphia plans to open part of a new hospital tower by mid-April, ahead of the facility’s planned opening, to help treat an expected influx of COVID-19 patients, according to NBC10.

Completion of the 17-story, 500-bed patient pavilion tower, called The Pavilion, was originally planned for 2021.

The health system has been working with Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf’s office and the Philadelphia Building and Construction Trades Council to expedite construction.
